Three years ago today, Hub took me to my favorite place on earth, Traverse City, Michigan. He reserved a beautiful room at a fantastic hotel right on the bay. When we walked in, there was a huge bouquet of Stargazer Lilies (my favorite flowers) waiting for me on the table. I was like, “oh my gosh, I can’t believe they have my favorite flowers in our room!”, and Hub was like, “ummm, I ordered those special for you”. Hah! What a good guy. We went down to the beach and sat in the sand for a while just talking and looking out at the water. Then, we went across the street to get a bottle of wine and headed back to the room to get ready for dinner. He said we were going to a nice place at the tip of the Leelanau Peninsula. I put on a cute black dress and curled my hair. The restaurant was adorable. We sat on a small balcony overlooking a little river. It was quiet and serene with lots of candlelight. We ordered a bottle of wine, which I still have the cork to, and had beef tenderloin for dinner. The whole night was incredibly romantic – lots of great conversation and hand holding.

We drove back to the hotel and listened to country music the whole way there. He definitely knows the way to my heart ;)
When we got back to the hotel, Hub asked me to go down to the beach with him. I was pretty chilly and in stilettos so a walk on the beach didn’t sound great, but I decided to keep the romantic train going and obliged. He gave me his suit coat so I could stay warm and I carried my shoes in my hand. We walked arm in arm along the shore. Finally, he stopped and, as he says, got his knee dirty. He said a lot of really sweet, heartfelt things and then asked me to marry him. I of course said yes and started crying tears of joy immediately. It was one of the best moments of my life.

It is crazy for me to think about that being 3 years ago. Although it seems like the time has gone by so fast, there is also so much that has happened in those three years. We bought a house, Hub graduated from school, moved to our hometown, started a new job, his grandma passed away, 2 weeks later my grandma passed away, 2 weeks later we got married, we traveled to another country for our honeymoon, we found out we were pregnant, I started a new job, we were a part of 5 weddings, we welcomed sweet baby J into our world, I quit my job, I started babysitting, we went on a few more vacations, and much much more. Wow! Our lives have changed so much in those three short years.

We’ve traded the romantic nights at fancy restaurants for nights at home rocking the baby. The weekend getaways have turned into family vacations. But I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Although, a nice, romantic dinner with my hub does sound awfully nice. Maybe we’ll have to find a babysitter so we can go celebrate those 3 amazing years!
