Though I hate to admit it, I am a terrible singer. Like really, really terrible. So, I try to refrain from belting out the words to my favorite songs in front of others. I wait till I am alone in the car to really get my Whitney on. J is usually in the car with me, so he gets a front row to seat to mommy’s version of Wake Me Up by Avicii or whatever other song I’m loving at the moment. Occasionally, Hub gets to hear me sing too… poor guy.
I have been singing more to J around the house or during diaper changes. I’ll do anything to get him to lay still while I try to change him. He seems to really like it and a lot of times will dance and clap to whatever I’m singing. I guess you could say he is my biggest fan.
I always sing him You Are My Sunshine while we are walking upstairs for nap or bedtime. I’ve been doing it since he was about 4 months old. It’s definitely “our song”. Lately, I’ve been noticing that as soon as I start singing it, his eyes start to get heavy and he’ll lay his head on my shoulder. Hub says its Pavlov’s Theory. He hears that song and knows it’s time to sleep.
So, the other night when I was out for a girl’s night, Hub started singing You Are My Sunshine to J as he was going to lay him down for bed. Apparently J did not like the remake of mommy’s song. He started screaming about 3 notes in. Hub took him back downstairs to calm him down and restart the bedtime routine. Once again, he started singing and once again, J started screaming. Hub learned pretty quickly that only mommy can sing that song.
Maybe my voice isn’t as bad as I thought…
Maybe I should go audition for one of those singing competitions…
Maybe I’ll just stick with this whole mommy thing and chalk it up to the baby just loves his mommy (and hasn’t heard anyone sing who actually has a good voice) haha!
